Is it really that new dress, or those 1,000 likes on a post that give us that warm, fuzzy feeling? To answer these questions, we need to dig a little deeper and ask: what forms the basis of happiness? What do we need before we can even think of being happy?
The world is powered by two main emotions: love and hate. These two sit at the center of everything else we feel. Hate... well, that’s not going to win any "Most Likely to Make You Smile" awards. But love? That’s a different story. Love is the foundation of happiness. It’s what makes the world go 'round, what keeps us glued together in this wild, unpredictable journey. Love for nature, life, people, and most importantly, yourself. Without love, there’d be chaos, and way too many grumpy faces.
Love has different meanings for different people and can show up in all sorts of ways. It’s love for yourself, your pets, your work, nature, or even someone’s smile. Honestly, if I tried to list all the ways love appears, this blog would turn into a full-blown novel. But hey, who knows—future bestseller alert? 😉.
For me, love lives in the little moments, those tiny spaces in time. It’s in the quiet moment between two people before they kiss. It’s in that breathless, overwhelming joy when a baby is born, and your heart feels like it might just burst. It’s in that hush between night and day, just before nature wakes up and starts its daily routine. It’s in the space I hold for my best and closest friend. It’s in that magical pause between breaths when you close your eyes and soak up the sun’s warmth on your face. It’s in watching a toddler play in nature, completely unaware of time, space, and the fact that their socks are now very muddy.
It’s also in the time you carve out for self-care (like saying “no” to that sixth Zoom call of the day) and in the hours you give to charity, seeing the difference it makes in the lives of others—whether they walk on two legs or four.
Happiness doesn’t exist in the past or the future. It’s right here, right now. It’s in the smile I find on my face after a quiet meditation session, that calmness settling over my nervous system like a cozy blanket. Happiness is what you do and give, not what you get. It’s about loving yourself, nature, family, friends, strangers, and just being present.
It’s in the look on a client’s face after a really good healing session, that glow that says, “Yep, today was a good day.” Happiness is all around us, and the good news is, you don’t have to book a flight to some exotic island to find it. (Although if you do, send me a postcard! Or even better, sponsor me😉) It’s right where you are at this very moment. So, close your eyes, take a deep breath, clear your mind, and you might just find that happiness is sitting there, waiting for you, with a big ol’ grin. Or come to Happy Fayre next weekend (1-3 Nov 2024) - happiness is our speciality you know, we just roll that way.😃
In happiness and gratitude
Nicci 🌸
