What is Happy?
My goodness, what a loaded question, hey? Strangely, most of the questions I get about The Happy Fayre are about why I decided to spell it "fayre" and not "fair." Fair question, but I think the more important question should be, why Happy? The dictionary refers to happy as a feeling or showing of pleasure or contentment. But it is so much more than that, is it not?
Happy isn't just a feeling because of obvious events like a party, birthday, or holiday. Happy is about being able to appreciate the simple and small things in life, like the smell of the earth after rain, biting into a crunchy juicy apple (or chocolate), a smile on your beloved's face, a wag from your dog's tail, or, in my case, the fact that my cats actually decided to grace me with a very dead mouse in the middle of the night as a sign of affection.
Some of the key things we do to stay happy are focusing on movement and getting out into nature. For some, it is prioritizing community and relationships or simply just taking time out from our busy schedules. We can have a huge impact on our mental health by making a conscious decision to do just so. And that, my happy fayrers, is what The Happy Fayre is all about—spreading joy and contentment by combining all the above.
At The Happy Fayre, you will find movement, nature, pets, friends, love, new friends, time out from your busy schedule, community, yummy food, new ways to maintain and improve your health, excitement, and happy smiles galore.
Why "Fayre" and Not "Fair"?
Now, let's dive into why we chose to spell it "fayre." The term "fayre" evokes a sense of old-world charm, tradition, and community. It brings to mind the bustling markets of yesteryear, where people gathered not just to trade goods, but to connect, celebrate, and share stories. The Happy Fayre aims to capture that essence—a place where modern life meets timeless joy.
The Power of Movement and Nature
One of the pillars of The Happy Fayre is the emphasis on movement and nature. We've all experienced the invigorating rush of a morning jog or the serene calm of a walk in the woods. Movement isn't just about exercise; it's about feeling alive, present, and in tune with our bodies. At the Fayre, you can join yoga sessions, balance your energy with a flow chi class, bounce your way to happy on a rebounder, and enjoy the sheer beauty of the surrounding nature. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or someone who just enjoys a leisurely stroll, there's something for everyone to get moving and feel great.
Building Community and Relationships
Another cornerstone of happiness is community. Humans are social creatures, and our relationships form the foundation of our well-being. The Happy Fayre is a space where you can connect with old friends, make new ones, and strengthen the bonds that make life meaningful. There will be a communal dining area, group activities, and plenty of opportunities to share stories and laughs. Whether it's find your breath with our 9D breathwork, joining a drumming circle, just sitting around a bonfire, or finding your mojo again by fire walking, the sense of community at The Happy Fayre will leave you feeling connected and uplifted.
Taking Time Out
Taking time out is essential for maintaining our mental health. The Happy Fayre provides a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle. Surrounded by the beauty of the Langeberg Mountains, and a dedicated kids zone to keep your little ones entertained, you'll find ample opportunities to relax and recharge. We believe that taking a break isn't just a luxury; it's a necessity for a happy and balanced life.
